Dear Patrons,
We are reaching out to you today with some important news. Six months ago, a committee was formed to assist Olivia Muntenau with her project, the Roatan Animal Shelter. At this time, Brittany Farrell was appointed the treasurer. Through the formed committee, a website and this Patreon page that you are all so wonderfully a part of was created by committee member Kate Harrison.
As of last week, Olivia Munteanu has communicated that she wishes to revert to independently running her shelter. She has requested the immediate removal of the website in addition to no longer be associated with this Patreon page.
All funds that have been collected prior to today have been successfully deposited into the Paypal account for Roatan Animal Shelter.
We want to move forward and continue supporting animals on Roatan that are in desperate need with some critically vital initiatives. Brittany Farrell will continue to manage the donations received through this Patreon account and effective immediately, we will be moving to a new organizational structure called Roatan Animal Support.
The organization will be chaired by Brittany Farrell, Kate Harrison and Anja Weyers, who was a former committee member responsible for fundraising and outreach support.
Monthly donations received March 1st, 2019 and onwards will be stewarded by Roatan Animal Support.
Our immediate objective is to work with respected community leader, founder of Roatan Because We Care and member of city council, Nidia Webster, to identify islanders that are in urgent need of financial assistance to sterilize their pets.
Studies have shown that just one unspayed female dog, her mate and all their offspring can create over 2,000 dogs within just four years and after six years, that number can soar to over 67,000. We feel that sterilization is one of the most instantaneous, effective ways of significantly reducing the overwhelming number of innocent animals on Roatan that ultimately end up defenseless, starving, hurt and facing a slow, painful death
Our complete list of organizational objectives are as follows:
- Spay & neuter program for the community’s most needy
- Financial assistance for emergency veterinary care in partnership ROAR (Roatan Operation Animal Rescue)
- Educational programs for school children about proper animal care
- Collaborating with international rescue organizations in order to facilitate adoptions of rescued animals on Roatan
- Creation of a new, large animal shelter/adoption center that will gladly welcome visitors, volunteers and supporters
We hope that we can count on your continued support in serving the neglected and suffering animal population on Roatan as well as helping empower local citizens that would otherwise be unable to afford veterinary care. Each month, we will be transparently posting our expense sheet and providing updates about the animals we have assisted with your generous support.
Our team is inspired about the journey ahead in improving hope and advocacy for our island animals. Support, time, talent and skills from anyone passionate about making a difference and willing to contribute are always welcome.
We understand that you may have additional questions regarding this transition. Please send any inquiries to info@roatananimalsupport.org and we will respond within 24 hours.
Best Regards,
Roatan Animal Support
